In psychoanalytic terms, phobic reaction is an overwhelming, irrational fear with the focus of the fear said to contain traces in symbolic form of the troubling elementmental concerns of everyday life issues. Phobic reaction manifests as an intense physiological and psychological feeling of distress attached to a given subject, life situation or object. Eg, fear of cats, flying or open spaces, in which the phobic subject generates an intense irrational response of the Autonomic Nervous system causing basically the physiological symptoms of a low range panic attack. This debilitating condition affects a person’s ability to function accordingly in a work, social, relationship or home situation. |
